Açaí (pronounced ah-sah-EE) is the fruit of a tall palm that grows along the Amazon River in northern Brazil. The berries are the size of a blueberry and almost black. Beneath the skin sits a large seed and a thin layer of pulp, and it is the pulp that becomes purée.
The flavour is dark and full-bodied, with notes of forest berries, a hint of cocoa and a slightly tart finish. A berry with depth that turns creamy when blended. That makes açaí ideal for bowls, smoothies and desserts, but also for baking and savoury dishes.
“A small palm berry with a big flavour, part of everyday meals along the rivers for generations.”
